Millions of dollars in funding for flooding protection projects has been approved by the British Columbia government.
The $3.46 million is part of the $69.5 million Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.
It will be doled out to 24 communities in the province, with a maximum payout of $150,000 each.
Approved projects include:
Central Okanagan Regional District: Regional floodplain management plan, Phase 3 ($150,000)
Enderby: Flood mapping and risk assessment ($120,000)
Kootenay-Boundary Regional District: Flood and geohazard risk assessment ($149,845)
City of Merritt: Detailed flood hazard mapping ($150,000)
Vernon: Lower BX Creek and Vernon Creek flood risk assessment, mapping and flood mitigation planning ($149,950)
"I have seen first-hand the loss and devastation catastrophic flooding can have on people, families and entire communities," said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
"In order to reduce the effect of flooding on people and their livelihoods, we are investing now to support flood risk assessments, mitigation and planning work. These projects help create resiliency by improving the capacity of local government and First Nations to respond to and recover from severe flooding events."
