Maple Ridge Mounties responded to a collision between a train and a vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, the second such incident in the city in a 15-day span.
While the Sept. 15 incident was not fatal, police confirmed that a woman has died as a result of the latest collision.
According to an RCMP statement, emergency crews were called to the scene in the 25700 block of Lougheed Highway around 2 pm after a pickup truck was struck by a train.
Officers arrived to find a significantly-damaged vehicle and two occupants who were inside the truck. Along with the woman who died, a man was hospitalized in critical condition.
The RCMP says the train operator is cooperating with the investigation and CPKC Police were notified. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service was called out to the scene.
Responding Mounties spoke with potential witnesses on the scene and are looking into all possible factors, but the RCMP declined to share any further details at this time.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Maple Ridge RCMP at 604-463-6251.
