DriveBC added in its update that the left lane remains closed in both directions south of the Great Bear Snowshed as catch basin repairs continue in the area.
(UPDATE: June 7 @ 3:55 pm) - It appears that traffic might return to the Coquihalla this evening, nearly 24 hours after the highway completely closed.
The highway is estimated to reopen at 7:30 pm, according to an update from DriveBC.
The highway has been closed all day to allow for emergency repairs to be made to a sinkhole.
The sinkhole was first discovered by a maintenance contractor in the northbound slow lane on Thursday night, about 80 kilometres south of Merritt.
According to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, the sinkhole appears to be the result of pipeline boring in the area.
“Ministry, maintenance contractor and Transmountain crews continue to work diligently to expedite repairs and open the highway as soon as safe to do so,” stated the ministry.
