Head on collision on Hwy 97a sends 4 to hospital

A head on collision led to the closure of Highway 97a near Grindrod, B.C. for several hours early Tuesday morning.

Just before 7 a.m., RCMP responded to a head on collision involving two small vehicles that sent four people to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to RCMP, the crash was the result of one vehicle allegedly crossing the centerline, leaving an 18-year-old driver from Salmon Arm facing possible charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.

"When significant things happen in a small rural area, it is often the local public who is on scene prior to emergency personnel, which was the case in today’s collision," said Cst. Kelly Brett.

“The RCMP would like to thank the public for stopping to render assistance to the occupants of the vehicles, with one vehicle carrying a small child.”

Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in this incident.
