UPDATE: Driver unaccounted for in Hwy 1 collision south of Cache Creek

(UPDATE: Oct. 5 @ 11:45 pm) - Highway 1 has reopened between Cache Creek and Spences Bridge after a fiery crash involving two semis early Thursday.

The RCMP has not provided an update on the status of one of the drivers, who was previously "unaccounted for."


(UPDATE: Oct. 5 @ 1:20 pm) – The RCMP say Highway 1 is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time following a two vehicle collision early Thursday morning.

At about 7 am, emergency crews responded to a collision between two commercial transport trucks about 20 kilometres south of Cache Creek.

A release from the RCMP says one of the driver’s was able to speak with officers and provide some information about the crash.

However, the other driver “remains unaccounted for at (this) time.”

No additional information is expected to be released at this time and drivers are advised to check DriveBC for traffic updates.

The next update is not expected to be released until 6 pm, says DriveBC.

There are a pair of detours in place.

Westbound traffic is advised to Highway 5 and eastbound traffic can use Highway 5 or Highway 97C (Okanagan Connector).


(UPDATE: Oct. 5 @ 9:18 am) – The Trans Canada highway is closed near Cache Creek due to a vehicle fire.

The highway was closed shortly before 8 am about three kilometres south of Venables Valley Road, which is about 20 km south of Cache Creek.

As of 9 am, the highway remains closed.

There are a pair of detours in place.

Westbound traffic is advised to Highway 5 and eastbound traffic can use Highway 5 or Highway 97C (Okanagan Connector).

Video footage shared to the Skilled Truckers Canada Facebook page shows a collision between two semi-trucks.

One of the truck appeared to be carrying scrap metal, which is strewn across the highway.

An assessment is in progress at this time, says DriveBC.

No information has been made public about any potential injuries.

There is no estimated time of reopening at this time and the next update is not expected until 1 pm on Thursday.
