There is still no estimated size estimate from the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) for the Dogtooth FSR fire, but it's certainly much larger than the 133 hectares listed on the BCWS website.

The most recent size estimate shows the fire spreading west, away from Hwy 95, and lists it as 133 hectares.

On Wednesday night, however, the fire seemingly exploded in growth, spreading rapidly to the east.

DriveBC announced the closure of Hwy 95 around 8 pm PT, noting that the wildfire had jumped the highway.

NowMedia will update this story when more information becomes available.

(Original story: July 24 @ 9 pm) - DriveBC is reporting that the highway between Golden and Radium Hot Springs is closed.

Shortly before 8:30 pm, Hwy 95 shut down in both directions due to a wildfire “jumping the highway.”

“There is a wildfire between S Edgewater Rd and Golden Overhead South for 93.8 km,” says DriveBC.

The BC Wildfire Service's latest update at 7:42 pm pegged the Dogtooth FSR wildfire as an estimated 133 hectares.

That fire sparked on the west side of Hwy 95 on Monday.

Meanwhile, there is a smaller wildfire (N41405) burning on the east side and was last estimated at less than a hectare in size.

The next update from DriveBC is expected at 7 am on Thursday.
