UPDATE: Hwy 1 reopened after serious crash in Fraser Canyon

(UPDATE: Nov. 25 at 5:05 am): The road has reopened.

(Original story: Nov. 24 at 10 am): The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) is expected to be closed through the Fraser Canyon for much of the day following a serious crash this morning.

According to RCMP, two trucks collided on Hwy 1 east of Lytton, in the area of Tank Hill, just minutes before 9 am.

The occupants of both trucks are said to have suffered “serious injuries.”

“Our investigation is in its infancy and investigators are trying to determine the cause of the incident,” said Cpl. Brett Urano via media release.

“We request the public to plan alternate routes and to check DriveBC for updates on when the highway will reopen.”

Urano asked the public for patience as first responders perform their duties at the scene.

NowMedia will update this story when more information becomes available or when the highway reopens.
