Travel through the Kootenays is expected to be a bit tricky over the next day or two as a blast of winter weather hits the region.
Environment Canada (EC) has issued a snowfall warning for Hwy 3 from the Paulson Summit to the Kootenay Pass.
It calls for between 15-20 centimetres of snow on the route between tonight and Saturday evening.
“A robust frontal system will pass over the region,” the EC alert explains. “Light snow will begin this afternoon and intensify in the overnight period.”
The alert warns travellers that visibility may be reduced suddenly in heavy snow.
It adds that rapidly-accumulating snow can make driving difficult and travel conditions can potentially change very quickly.
