(Original story: Jan. 23 @ 4:10 pm) - Northbound traffic is at a standstill on the Coquihalla (Hwy 5) on the approach into Merritt.
DriveBC says a “vehicle incident” involving a semi north of Comstock Road has northbound traffic blocked, but crews and tow trucks are on scene.
The road has not been listed as officially closed by DriveBC, but motorists in the area are warning others that it could be a bit of a wait.
“Stay in Hope everyone,” wrote one woman in the Coquihalla Road Reports Facebook group. “Traffic has stopped about 15 kilometres from Merritt in the northbound lanes.”
Another man shared a photo of where the incident took place, saying three trucks were involved in the crash and that an ambulance is at the scene alongside tow trucks.
When another commenter pointed out that it looks very icy on the road, the original poster confirmed the slick conditions and noted that people are having issues even walking.
Since there has been no official closure and crews are on scene, traffic could very well start moving again shortly.
For now though, it remains at a standstill and travellers should monitor DriveBC for updates before hitting the road from Hope to Merritt.
