Charges laid against allegedly impaired driver a year after fatal crash on BC Hwy 1

A year-long investigation into a crash on Vancouver Island that killed a man and seriously injured another has produced charges.

The deadly collision happened on Hwy 1 at Boys Road in Duncan, BC, on March 1, 2025.

Shortly after 7 pm, a black Dodge Ram pickup collided with a blue Dodge Ram pickup in the northbound lanes of Hwy 1.

Unfortunately, the blue pickup’s passenger, a 62-year-old Victoria man, was killed in the collision, while the 72-year-old Duncan man behind the wheel suffered critical injuries.

On April 18, 2026, four charges were laid against the driver of the black pickup, 49-year-old Iain Lemon of Duncan.

  • Impaired driving causing death
  • Impaired driving causing bodily harm
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

Lemon’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 26 in Duncan Provincial Court.
