Missing woman ‘swept away’ while swimming in BC provincial park

The search is ongoing today for a woman who went missing while swimming at Stamp River Provincial Park near Port Alberni.

The RCMP was called around 5:30 pm Sunday and told that the female swimmer was “swept away by the current.”

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and conducted a search, but were unable to locate the woman before darkness fell.

Port Alberni RCMP, Alberni Valley Rescue Squad and Arrowsmith Search and Rescue are back in the park today looking for the missing woman.

According to police, Stamp River Provincial Park remains open to the public while the search is ongoing.

However, the section of trail closest to the falls is currently closed to allow search crews to conduct their operations safely and effectively.
