“Despite extensive emergency response efforts, the vessels were lost and subsequently sank,” a statement from Van Isle Marina confirmed.
“We are deeply relieved to confirm that no one was onboard at the time and that no injuries occurred.”
The destructive blaze broke out shortly before 8 am Sunday and the Sidney Fire Department was first on scene, later joined by firefighters from the Saanich area.
The Town of Sidney issued a statement around 10:30 am saying the fire had been suppressed.
“Environmental response is now underway by Western Canada Marine Response,” the statement noted.
Van Isle Marina added that fuel containment and surface cleanup were actively underway after the fire was contained Sunday, and environmental protection is “a top priority.”
“Salvage planning is in progress and will proceed in close coordination with the appropriate authorities to safely remove the vessels and debris,” the marina explained.
All three boat owners were contacted regarding their losses and Van Isle Marina expressed their condolences to those affected.
