A popular event at the Vernon Winter Carnival won’t be on the schedule this year.
Due to a lack of resources, both monetary and manpower, along with other factors, the Balloon Glow has been cancelled.
The event’s usual location, Polson Park, has been problematic in the past because of soft ground and a general lack of parking.
A new location was planned for 2019, but the City of Vernon Parks Department’s requirements were too expensive for the Vernon Winter Carnival Society to afford.
“This decision was not arrived on lightly,” said a statement from the VWCS, “but could not be prevented.”
The Vernon Winter Carnival’s executive director, Vicki Proulx, expressed disappointment, but said there was still the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta to look forward to.
That event will occur at some point between Feb. 1-3, but when and where will be entirely dependant on the weather.
