Okanagan man returns home to find it being robbed

A homeowner was in for quite the surprise when he get home on Wednesday afternoon.

He returned to his home on Black Rock Road in Vernon around 1:15 pm and heard someone moving around on the upper floor of the residence.

Assuming it was a family member, he wasn’t concerned, but suddenly he saw an unknown man coming down the stairs with a pair of bags.

When the homeowner tried to confront the 47-year-old, who has no fixed address himself, the man dropped one of the bags and walked out the door.

The police were called and were able to track the suspect to a shed on a nearby property.

“The one good thing about all this freshly fallen snow is that it made it relatively easy for our front line officers to follow the suspect,” explained Cpl. Tania Finn.

Officers arrested the man without further incident and were able to return all the stolen property to the homeowner.

The suspect has been charged with break, enter and theft and remains in custody.
