Missing Middle Housing Initiative to continue next month

The Missing Middle Housing Initiative is to be continued after last night’s public hearing at Victoria City Council.

The hearing will resume on Sept. 1, 2022 at 6:30 pm.

The Missing Middle Housing Initiative proposes to allow houseplexes and corner townhouses in addition to single-family homes in Traditional Residential areas of the city.

The Missing Middle Housing Initiative proposes to allow houseplexes and corner townhouses in addition to single-family homes in traditional residential areas of the city.

According to the city, much of Victoria is still only zoned for single-family homes. Building Missing Middle housing requires a rezoning, which can be a long and complex process—which may explain why older homes are often replaced with more expensive single-family homes.

The goal is to create more home and housing choices, and to expedite the process. Missing Middle homes that meet established design guidelines can proceed to construction, without the need for a rezoning.

Members of the public can continue to provide written or pre-recorded submissions to the public hearing by sending them to [email protected] or by attending the hearing in-person.
