City of West Kelowna seeks input on parks, recreational trail master plans

The City of West Kelowna is seeking input from the community on a pair of draft plans that will guide how the city invests in parks and trails over the next 10 years.

The second phase of public engagements on the draft Parks and Recreational Trails Master Plans has now begun and will continue through until May 24.

“Feedback gathered during Phase 2 will help to identify refinements before the draft plans are finalized,” the city says in a news release.

“Plans will help the City continue to provide diverse experiences for residents to get outside and enjoy all that beautiful West Kelowna has to offer.”

Residents can visit this link to review project pages, read the draft plans, complete feedback forms or ask questions.

If you are interested in submitting in-person feedback, the city says you can call the Communications and Engagement Department at (778) 797-1234 to request paper copies of the feedback forms and join us in person at our Community Open House.

The open house is happening at the West Kelowna Yacht Club at 4111 Gellatly Road on Wednesday, May 15 from 3-7 pm.

The Parks Master Plan was created in 2010 but has not been updated since 2016.

West Kelowna’s first Recreation Trails Master Plan was created in 2013.

The two plans have helped guide the city in several projects including the CNR Wharf improvements, Annette Beaudreau Amphitheatre, playground additions, field and court upgrades, and much more.

“Since parks and recreational trails are closely linked, we are updating the Parks Master Plan and the Recreational Trails Master Plan together,” says the city.

“Since the last update, West Kelowna has grown, our world has changed, and you have shared new ideas.”
