Evacuation alert issued for wildfire near Echo Lake east of Lumby

A wildfire burning near Echo Lake in the Creighton Valley east of Lumby has caused an evacuation alert to be issued for multiple residences in the area.

The Bonneau Creek wildfire was spotted on Friday and according to the BC Wildfire Service, it is 1.7 hectares in size and burning out of control.

The affected properties that are in the evacuation alert area include:

  • 11 Eight Mile Rd.
  • West end of Echo Lake going east and south, including DVM Bible Camp and properties 1812, 1815, 1824, 1848, 1855, 1864, 1871, 1876, 2126, 2230, 2234, 2241, 2242, 2244, 2245, 2246, 2376, 2432, 2450, 2478, 2485, 2510, 2514, 2530 Creighton Valley Rd.

“An Evacuation Alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises, property or recreational site within the mapped area should it be found necessary,” wrote the Regional District of North Okanagan.

“Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.”

The RDNO recommended that residents visit www.rdno.ca, the RDNO Facebook page, and listen to the radio for announcements.
