Trades are always possible, but at this point it looks like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be a Toronto Blue Jay for life.
News broke late Sunday evening that the Jays had locked up their superstar first baseman to a massive 14-year contract extension worth $500 million.
While the half-a-billion-dollar deal has not yet been officially announced by the club, it’s been reported by several high-level insiders and shared by the MLB on social media.

It’s the most lucrative contract handed out by the Blue Jays in franchise history, worth more than three times more than the six-year, $150-million deal George Springer signed in 2021.
Jon Heyman reports that the deal includes no deferred money, a new financial tactic made famous by the Los Angeles Dodgers when signing Shohei Ohtani in December 2023.
The MLB insider also indicates that the contract has a full no-trade clause and signing bonus for the young slugger.

Guerrero Jr. is off to a somewhat slow start to the 2025 season, with 10 hits, four runs batted in and a .256 average through 10 games. He’s still looking for his first home run of the campaign.
However, the 26-year-old also started slow last spring and turned it on in a major way through the summer months, finishing the year with 199 hits, 30 home runs and a .323 average.
Now that Guerrero Jr. has been locked up long-term, attention will turn to Toronto shortstop Bo Bichette, who remains eligible for free agency after the 2025 season.
