ESPN’s Body Issue features same-sex couple for the first time

The 10th annual Body Issue of ESPN Magazine has hit shelves.

This year, the magazine features 16 athletes across 10 sports, but there are only 15 spreads.

That’s because two of the athletes, Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, are posing together as the first same-sex couple to do so in the Body Issue’s 10-year history.

Bird and Rapinoe both play professional sports in Seattle, Bird with the WNBA’s Seattle Storm and Rapinoe with the NWSL’s Seattle Reign.

“Two great athletes. Also, a couple. Pretty cool statement for sports in America and beyond,” tweeted Richard Deitsch, a sports radio host on Fan 590 in Toronto.

Also of note in this year’s Body Issue are New York Giants rookie Saquon Barkley, Olympic gold medallist Jessie Diggins, NFL hall of famer Jerry Rice and golf legend Greg Norman.

Norman even deserves an extra shoutout, as the 63-year-old is rocking a body that could rival most 25-year-olds.
