Summer McIntosh remains golden while the Canadians excel in the pool

It was an excellent eighth day of the Olympics for Canadians in watersports as three medals were won in swimming and one in rowing.

The star of the show was Summer McIntosh, who won her fourth medal at the Games by taking gold in the women’s 200m individual medley.

The 17-year-old finished the third leg of the race in second place and stormed back to finish with an Olympic record time of 2:06.5.

McIntosh is the first Canadian athlete to win three gold medals in one Olympic Games.

Canada continued to find success in the pool today as Josh Liendo and Ilya Kharun won silver and bronze medals respectively.

The duo accomplished the feat in the men’s 100m butterfly event and this is Canada’s first double podium at the Summer Games since Montreal in 1976.

Earlier in the day, Canada’s women’s rowing eight team (the defending Olympic champions) found their way back onto the podium in the form of a silver medal.

Unfortunately, the Canadian women’s soccer journey ended after they lost to Germany on penalty kicks in the quarter-finals.
