Maybe it is just us, but when we stepped outside today, it felt much warmer than it has been lately.
Well, most of that is true because the temperature in Kamloops has been so darn cold, but the zero degrees were feeling is actually much lower than the average temperature for this time.
According to Environment Canada Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon, the normals for this time of year are highs of 6°C and lows of -3°C. Compare that to our current high of 0°C and low of -12°C for a very different pattern.
"Well, you know it feels relatively warm to what we have seen, especially relative to what we have seen earlier this month in Kamloops," said Sekhon. "However, we are still forecasting below average temperatures for this time of year."
"The normals for this time of year are a high of plus six and a low of minus three for Kamloops. Our forecasts are still predicting lower than those temperatures into next week here."
Sekhon adds that the arctic air responsible for the extreme cold Kamloops has experienced seems to be retreating.
"We've had really, really cold arctic air in place earlier this month. The last week or so things have kind of moderated a little bit to less cold temperatures, but we are still remaining below average for this time of year."
Sekhon went on to say that March is still his best guess at when this cold snap will end.
"The rest of this month does not look promising to get to our average temperatures for this time of year."
