It was a scorcher in the South Okanagan on Sunday.
According to Environment Canada, Penticton hit a high of 39.1°C in the afternoon, the highest temperature in recorded history for the city on July 13.
It eclipsed the previous mark of 38.3°C, which was set nearly a century ago in 1930. Records have been kept in this area since 1907.
The story was similar in nearby Summerland, as the high of 38.3°C was good enough to break the previous daily temperature record of 37.8°C set in 1930.
Two other records were broken in BC’s Southern Interior on Sunday, with the others being further east in the Kootenays.
Trail hit 39°C to eclipse the previous July 13 record of 38.7°C, set in 2021, while Nelson’s 36.8°C just edged the previous 2007 mark of 36.6°C.
It will cool down today, with a high of 29°C expected in Penticton under a mix of sun and cloud, with a high likelihood of showers throughout the afternoon.
