Several communities across British Columbia’s Interior shattered temperature records Wednesday as an early spring warm spell pushed readings well above seasonal norms.
Environment Canada says a warm airmass moved into the region on March 18, setting new daily maximum temperature records in a number of locations.
In the Southern Interior, Osoyoos reached 22.7ºC, breaking the previous record of 22.0ºC set in 2024. Nearby Summerland climbed to 20.8ºC, surpassing the old record of 20.0ºC set in 1930.
Kamloops also set a new record at 21.8ºC, edging past a mark that had stood since 1910.
Further north, Prince George recorded a high of 14.8ºC, beating the previous record of 13.9ºC set just last year. Quesnel reached 18.6ºC, topping a record that dated back to 1901, while Williams Lake hit 17.0ºC, exceeding its 2024 record.
Salmon Arm saw one of the largest jumps, with temperatures climbing to 21.7ºC — well above the previous record of 16.7ºC set in 1915.
Environment Canada says the records are preliminary and based on historical stations in each region, and may be updated as more data becomes available.
