A blast of winter weather has hit BC Interior highways this morning.

Ahead of the weekend, highway routes between Merritt and both Kamloops and Kelowna are dealing with high-elevation snowfall.

On the Okanagan Connector (Hwy 97C), the Elkhart Road webcam shows that snow started falling on the route around 8:30 am.

An hour later, the road was covered in snow, but the most recent webcam images show that the pavement is once again visible as vehicles carved out a path.

It’s a similar story on Hwy 5 south of Kamloops in the area around Walloper Lake Provincial Park.

The webcam around the Hwy 97D turnoff shows the effects of a dump of snow and it appears to still be falling lightly.

While no Environment Canada weather alert is in place as of Friday morning, this is likely not the last snowfall of the weekend on BC Interior highways.

The forecast over the next two days calls for cooler temperatures and plenty of rain at lower elevations, which means the mountain passes will almost certainly see more snow.
