You don’t need to spend an entire weekend at a ski resort to have an epic day in the mountains. For us in the Okanagan, we are so incredibly fortunate to be close enough to world class ski hills that we can pop up for the day and pack in an action-packed daycation!
It’s definitely nice to have a hotel or accommodation to stay at when visiting the ski hill but as we found this year, many of the resorts get booked up fast! They also add a big expense to a day of enjoying the slopes, so here’s our itinerary for one epic day at SilverStar Mountain Resort for the whole family.
Our day at SilverStar Mountain Resort proved that you don’t need a full weekend to make serious mountain memories. With three kids at completely different stages, one brand new to skiing, one confidently cruising at Level 3, and one snowboarder who’s officially “too cool” for lessons and chasing powder instead, everyone had exactly what they needed.
The boys headed off to lessons (watch the video to find out what “Relive Your Lesson” is, we thought this was so cool!) while I leaned into my own version of mountain adventure: coffee at Bugaboos Bakery Cafe, browsing the colorful SilverStar Mountain Resort Village, and sneaking away for pedicures at Elevate Day Spa.
Beyond the slopes, there’s so much for non-skiers too, skating, snowshoeing, tubing, even a mini snowmobile track for the kids, which makes it such a win for families with mixed interests. Lessons wrap up in time for everyone to reunite for lunch at Red Antler, then spend the afternoon skiing (or exploring) together as a full crew. I break down exactly how we structured the day, what we’d repeat, and what made it seamless in the YouTube video linked above.
