2 people killed in RV fire in the Kootenays

Police have confirmed that an RV fire in a remote location near Trail was fatal.

Kootenay Boundary Fire Rescue (KBFR) responded to the blaze in the area of Seven Mile Dam on Tuesday.

Firefighters reported that the RV was fully engulfed in flames and they were unsure whether anyone was inside.

After extinguishing the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the bush, firefighters examined the scene further and found two people dead inside the RV.

Mounties were alerted and attended to secure the scene, initiating an investigation to determine the identities of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Police determined that the fire was not suspicious in nature and there was no foul play identified in connection to the two deaths.

“This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” said Cpl. Brett Urano.

“We also want to acknowledge the efforts of the fire crews who prevented further damage in what could have become a larger wildfire situation.”

The investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.
