Beer column: What new fun flavours are in this year’s Juice Box Sour Mixer?

I’ve said it before, but no one in British Columbia does sours quite like Dead Frog Brewery in Langley.

They always have a handful of unique sours on tap at the brewery and in cans at liquor stores across the province, which includes their annual Juice Box Sour Mixer.

I’ve written about this mixed pack, perfect for hot summer days, in both 2024 and 2025, so I figured I’d make it three years in a row and dive into what’s in the box this year.

There’s only one returnee in the Peach Lemonade Sour, which Dead Frog describes as “a refreshing golden ale with a fresh splash of peach, a hint of lemon and a crisp finish.”

Only one returnee means that there are three brand new options in this year’s mixed pack – Lemon Warhead Imperial Sour, P.O.G. Tropical Sour and Cream Soda Sour.

The high-ABV Warhead Imperial Sours, inspired by the iconic candy, are a staple at Dead Frog, and the original Warhead Blackberry Imperial Sour is one of their five core beers.

After Watermelon and Blueberry versions in the last two Juice Boxes, the brewery doubled down on the sour with Lemon in this year’s edition.

At a whopping 9% ABV, this bad boy is exploding with flavours of freshly-squeezed lemon, a splash of sweet lemon zest and a juicy blast of lemon on the finish.

Once your lips unpucker from that one, you can crack open the P.O.G. Tropical Sour for a taste of the tropics.

If you didn’t already know, P.O.G. stands for passion fruit, orange and guava, and those are the flavours you’ll get in this 5% ABV beer.

Finally, the Cream Soda Sour seems to be the ‘nostalgic childhood’ replacement, if you will, for the Rocket Pop Sour that was in the first two iterations of the Juice Box.

A soda or popsicle treat you likely craved as a kid but don’t enjoy much now as an adult, but now you can seek it out in beer form.

The bright pink sour, also 5% ABV, is bursting with flavours of fresh fruit and a hint of vanilla, offering “a blast of summers gone by,” the brewery says.

The easiest place to track down this year’s Juice Box will be BC Liquor Stores, as it’s available at 92 locations around the province for $24.49 plus taxes and fees.
