Alberta man charged in connection to fatal highway crash near Cranbrook

Charges have been laid in connection to a crash that killed a woman near Cranbrook just over one year ago.

According to the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP), 50-year-old Dany Dube has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

The charge was approved by the BC Prosecution Service on Feb. 11, 2026, exactly one year after the fatal crash.

Around 7 pm on Feb. 11, 2025, emergency crews responded to the collision on Hwy 93/3, around 15 kilometres east of Cranbrook.

At the time, the BCHP said a white 2015 Dodge pickup, now known to be driven by Dube, hit a grey Pontiac Vibe head-on as it tried to pass a semi on the highway.

While Dube and his passenger escaped with minor injuries, the 62-year-old Wardner woman behind the wheel of the Pontiac did not survive the crash.

Dube is scheduled to make his first court appearance on April 13, 2026.
