The bodies of two snowmobilers have been recovered from a lake in the BC Interior.
The couple had been missing for three days when Anahim Lake RCMP were alerted about their status on Feb. 20.
While police were en route to the area, neighbours initiated a search and located the couple dead beneath the ice on Charlotte Lake.
“Due to the delay in the couple being reported missing, the lake surface had time to refreeze, concealing the break in the ice,” an RCMP statement explained.
On Feb. 22, the specialized ice-diving members of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team worked to recover the victims’ bodies from the lake.
They have since been identified as a 65-year-old man and 58-year-old woman from 100 Mile House.

“Variable temperatures significantly increase the risks associated with any activity on frozen lakes or rivers, and we urge everyone to use extreme caution,” explained Sgt. Scott Clay.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.”
The BC Coroners Service is now leading the investigation into the deaths as criminality is not suspected.
