Police have confirmed that a crash between a dirt bike and SUV on Hwy 8 near Merritt on Tuesday was fatal.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the fatal crash around 5:30 pm. DriveBC reports that it was between Marshall and Aberdeen roads in Lower Nicola.
According to police, the dirt bike struck the SUV and “the rider was tossed.”
The rider was suffering from critical injuries when reached by first responders and sadly pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving measures being performed.
The driver of the SUV was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Hwy 8 was closed for several hours while police investigated the scene and finally reopened around 3 am Wednesday.
