Police have confirmed that a crash in the Sicamous area on Wednesday was fatal.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the collision between a car and semi, on Hwy 97A near Hummingbird Resort, around 8:40 am.
“A southbound Ford sedan lost control after navigating a curve in the roadway,” an RCMP release explained.
“The vehicle then crossed the centre line and into the path of a northbound semi truck and trailer which resulted in a heavy collision between the two vehicles in the northbound lane.”
By the time paramedics arrived, the 22-year-old Salmon Arm woman who was driving the Ford had already been declared dead by an off-duty physician who had stopped to render assistance.
No other injuries were reported in the collision.
According to police, road conditions were “slippery with heavy snow falling” at the time of the crash, with the highway covered in a “thin layer of wet snow.”
Hwy 97A was shut down for around six hours following the accident and Bruhn Bridge construction was halted for the day to allow Hwy 1 to remain open.
