There’s no doubt that the crew at Tourism Fernie are consummate professionals who love their job and promoting travel to the mountain town in southeastern BC.
However, it’s also likely safe to say that David Beckham’s annual ski trip to the Fernie area and accompanying Instagram post have more of an impact than they could ever dream of making on their own.
Once again, Beckham made the trek out to Island Lake Lodge near Fernie for his annual trip alongside his son Cruz and other friends.
And once again, Beckham took to social media to gush about his experience in the Kootenays to nearly 90-million Instagram followers.
“Every year I try to take four days in the mountains in Fernie, BC,” he wrote. “One of my favourite places to be.”
Plenty of big-name celebrities chimed in on his post, including his wife Victoria, and the Explore Canada Instagram account commented: “How lucky we are to see you every year!”
It's almost a little surreal to see such a massive global icon like Beckham have such a deep affection for a place that most people of his status wouldn't be able to find on a map.
And while incredible British Columbian spots like Fernie may be a secret to most of the world, those who live in the province know exactly why Beckham comes to visit every year.
