Mounties in the Kootenays are investigating a concerning report about a gun being pointed at innocent motorists who were filling up their vehicle with gas.
According to the RCMP, the person who reported the incident was at the Centex gas station on Cranbrook Street North when the incident happened around 8 pm Friday.
He told police that while he was getting fuel, an unknown man brandished a firearm at him and a passenger who was inside his vehicle.
The suspect allegedly approached the pair, produced what appeared to be a small revolver and pointed it in their direction before walking away from the scene.
Fearing for their safety, the duo left the scene before calling the RCMP to report the incident. The suspect was last seen walking northbound from the area and pushing a shopping cart.
Officers attended the scene and conducted patrols, but were unable to locate the suspect who was said to have been wearing a blue hoodie and black pants.
Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect or the specific incident Friday night to contact the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471.
That’s not the only gun-related incident the Cranbrook RCMP are investigating from the weekend, as Mounties responded to a shooting at a residence in the 300 block of 3rd Avenue South around 9:20 pm Sunday.
“While the investigation is in its infancy, early indications are that the shooting was targeted,” explained S/Sgt. Barry Graham.
“We have not ruled out any particular motive at this time and will work to determine if there is any connection with other recent acts of violence in our community.”
No injuries were reported in Sunday night’s shooting and police say there is “nothing to suggest a nexus to similar extortion crimes.”
Anyone with information that could assist Mounties with either investigation is urged to contact the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471.
