Mounties arrested a student at a Williams Lake high school this morning.
The RCMP says officers responded to “an unfolding event” at Columneetza Junior Secondary School around 11:15 am.
“A 15-year-old male reportedly injured a staff member prior to the youth being apprehended by other school staff,” noted an RCMP release.
Officers were at the school within minutes of the report coming in and took the teen suspect into custody.
While this unfolded, the school was placed in a temporary hold and secure, but the RCMP says there’s nothing to suggest that there are additional suspects.
“I want to be clear that the students and staff are now safe,” noted Sgt. Brad McKinnon, Williams Lake RCMP. “The hold and secure was a safety precaution and lifted shortly after the suspect was removed from the school.”
McKinnon added that “the investigation is in its infancy” right now and there is “no information to suggest motive at this time.”
While no details have been provided about what happened between the student and staff member, the RCMP said the latter is receiving medical attention for their minor injuries.
