Beer column: Spring calls for sessionable beers and you’ll find that in this box

Welcome to spring!

It’s time to ditch those heavy winter beers for light and refreshing options, although I jumped the gun on that a bit with my March 7 and March 14 sour-focused columns.

No sours this week, but I am going to introduce you to four sessionable beers that will be perfect additions to your spring and summer lineup.

The best part is they’re a pretty cheap option if you’re looking for variety, because they come in an eight pack that costs under $20 at BC Liquor Stores.

It’s the Notus Mixed Pack from Four Winds Brewing, which includes the Elementary Lager, Vélo Pale Ale with Lemon, La Maison Wild Saison and Featherweight IPA.

The brewery calls it "summer in a box."

While all four beers are quite different, they all come in at a very manageable 4.5% ABV (alcohol by volume).

Here’s a quick rundown on each beer from the fine folks at Four Winds:

  • Elementary Lager – This crisp and uncomplicated American lager is brewed with corn and finished with New Zealand hops for subtle hints of lemon and lime.
  • Vélo Pale Ale with Lemon – A hazy American Pale Ale conditioned with fresh lemon juice & pink Himalayan salt. Bright and bursting with citrus, Vélo, created to quench the perfect après cycle.
  • La Maison Wild Saison – A delicately light body with a pale golden hue, this dry table Saison is brewed with oats and rye and then fermented with wild yeast for notes of pepper and tropical fruit.
  • Featherweight IPA – A modest IPA with a refreshingly light body. Key notes of tropical fruit and resinous subtleties give way to a crisp, clean finish.
