Beer column: You might hear the ice cream truck jingle when you crack open this sour

As I promised last week, it’s back-to-back sours for the beer column.

Even though we’re not even in spring and the weather has been a bit yucky of late, it’s the time of year where breweries start to drop their spring and summer releases.

I introduced you to Field House Brewing’s annual sour mixed pack last week, one that’s mainly inspired by candy, and this week’s feature is another taste of your childhood.

It’s the newest addition to Phillips Brewing’s Dinosour lineup – the Dinosour Power Rocket Pop!

Coming in at 7% ABV (alcohol by volume), Phillips promises that this one is “exactly like you remember.”

“Cherry. Blue Raspberry. Lemon-lime. In that order.”

As was the case with the Field House sour mixer last week, I have yet to get my hands on this one, but I also feel like it’s not exactly one you need me to describe for you.

The brewery says it tastes like the iconic rocket pop you enjoyed as a kid, so that’s probably what you should expect!

While the Dinosour Power Rocket Pop is the focus of this week’s column, Phillips has been busy with seasonal releases since the beginning of March so I have a couple other beers to show you.

Dinosaur Watermelon is back by popular demand, but the brewery says it’s 4.2% ABV this time around as opposed to the much higher 7% ABV the last time it was released.

According to Phillips, it has the same juicy punch people loved, but at a more sessionable ABV to keep you sipping all summer long.

There’s also a new Solaris on liquor store shelves, which is the annual wheat ale release from Phillips.

This beer has had all sorts of forms over recent years, starting as the Solaris White Peach Ale before being reimagined as the Solaris Summer Wheat Ale.

Last year, the brewery introduced the Solaris Raspberry Wheat Ale, and now it has become the Solaris Citrus Wheat Ale.

“An easy-drinking summer sipper with bright lemon zest, fresh lime and a soft wheat finish,” explains a Phillips social media reveal.

“Smooth, crisp, seriously refreshing and only 4% ABV, perfect for sunny afternoons when one never quite feels like enough.”

You should be able to find all of these new Phillips beers at liquor stores across British Columbia over the coming weeks and months!
