It certainly wasn’t a straightforward realization for a Kelowna man who recently won a life-changing sum from a scratch & win ticket.
Clifford F. told the BCLC he had to do a double take after seeing the word “annuity” on the BCLC Lotto! app when he checked his Set for Life scratcher.
“My first thought when I saw annuity was, ‘What does that mean?’” he recalled. “I knew what the word meant, but in this context [while double checking my ticket] I wasn’t too sure!”
It turns out he had won the game’s top prize of $675,000 in a lump sum payment, which he chose over the option of $1,000 per week for 25 years.

Once he confirmed his win, Clifford sent a photo of the ticket to his cousins and they also had some issues immediately understanding the magnitude of it all.
“One cousin came back and said, ‘You won $15’ and I said, ‘Look again!’ It’s just all so unbelievable,” he noted.
Clifford plans to celebrate the windfall with a trip to Mexico, then he’ll be heading to Las Vegas to celebrate his birthday.
When asked how it feels to get such a major lottery win, the first words that came to his mind were “grateful, fortunate and unbelievable.”
The winning ticket was purchased at the Save-On-Foods on Dobbin Road in West Kelowna.
