Suspicious fire destroys shed, damages modular home in Lake Country

A fire that spread from an outdoor blaze to a structure caused minor damage to a modular home in the 700 block of Beaver Lake Road on Tuesday evening.

Kelowna Regional Dispatch received reports of the fire just after 6 p.m., prompting a response from both the Kelowna Fire Department and Lake Country Fire Department. When crews arrived, they found a shed fully involved in flames between two modular homes.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire before it spread further. The shed was destroyed, while a nearby storage sea can and one modular home sustained minor damage.

No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is considered suspicious and remains under investigation.

Kelowna Fire Department initially responded with five engines, a rescue unit, a water tender and a command unit, involving 23 firefighters. Lake Country Fire Department assisted with one engine, one pumper, a water tender and a command unit, with 12 firefighters on scene.

Kelowna Fire Department is reminding residents to ensure smoke alarms are installed and functioning, noting that working alarms can save lives.
