Okanagan brewery forced to temporarily shut its doors following fire

Pardeep Jaswal calls it a setback, promising that Silverstar Brewing will be back.

The owner of the Vernon brewery took to social media on Wednesday to inform loyal patrons that the business will be temporarily shut down following a fire early Monday morning.

“The last little while has been tough for our entire team,” wrote Jaswal, who is better known as PJ. “A fire has forced us to close the brewpub temporarily, and it’s been hard seeing a place we care so deeply about take a hit like this.”

PJ said the focus right now is rebuilding and getting the brewpub open again “as soon as possible.”

While that is happening, the team is also working to find a solution for brewing and canning so they can ensure SilverStar beer is available through the spring and summer.

“Thank you for standing with us,” he noted. “We’ll continue to share updates as we have them.”

Firefighters were called to the brewery in the 2900 block of 30th Avenue shortly before 2 am Monday and the RCMP was summoned to the scene not long after.

The fire was labelled as suspicious in nature and police are gathering evidence as part of an arson investigation.
