Okanagan man to use $500K lotto prize on mortgage, kids and retirement

An Armstrong man is $500,000 richer after matching all four Extra numbers from the Feb. 28 Lotto 6/49 draw.

John S. was at a local 7-Eleven when he checked the life-changing lottery ticket on the self-scanner and had a hard time wrapping his mind around what the machine showed him.

“I thought it was broken,” he explained. “I was in disbelief!”

According to John, his wife thought he was “pulling her leg” when he told her to check the lottery numbers to reveal their big win.

John has a few initial plans for the prize money, including paying off the mortgage and gifting some to his kids, and he’s ecstatic about what this means for his life post-work.

“This is going to make retirement very nice,” he said. “It’s surreal!”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Armstrong Co-op on Okanagan Street.
