A B.C. assistant hunting guide has been ordered to pay more than $30,000 after taking a client outside an authorized hunting area.
The Conservation Officer Service says Franck Besseat pleaded guilty to guiding a hunter in an area not permitted under his employer’s guide outfitter licence.
The offence took place near McBride in September 2022.
Officials say the investigation began after a complaint was made to the province’s Report All Poachers and Polluters line. Charges were later laid following an investigation by the Conservation Officer Service’s specialized enforcement section.

Besseat was sentenced in B.C. provincial court on April 15, 2026.
The penalty includes a $29,000 payment to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, a $1,000 fine and a $150 victim surcharge.
He was also placed on 12 months probation, with a condition that he not apply to the Guide Outfitters Association of B.C. during that period.
The Conservation Officer Service is reminding the public to report suspected illegal hunting, fishing or environmental activity to the RAPP line.
