Mother of missing man found dead in the BC Interior pleads for information

In early March, it was finally confirmed that human remains discovered near Nelson last summer belonged to Christopher Newton.

Newton, a 33-year-old Indigenous male, had last been seen in December 2023, but was not reported missing to the Nelson Police Department until early January 2025.

His remains were found on June 4, 2025, in the area of 2-Mile near Nelson, which is the same place he was last reported to have been seen 18 months earlier.

“There remain many unanswered questions about what happened to Christopher,” said Cpl. Meghan Foster of the RCMP’s Southeast District General Investigations Section (SED GIS).

The SED GIS is now leading the investigation into Newton’s death and is turning to the public in hopes that new information may help advance the probe.

Specifically, investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have seen Newton or associated with him between Dec. 24, 2023, and June 4, 2025.

Newton’s mother, Christine Moore says she lives every day with the heartbreak of missing her son and not knowing the full truth of what happened to him.

“Our family carries that pain with us every single day. Christopher was deeply loved, and he should still be here,” she said in a provided statement.

“We believe someone knows more than they have said, and even the smallest piece of information could help bring us closer to answers.”

Moore urged anyone who knows something to come forward to police.

“Please do not let our family go on living with these unanswered questions while the truth is still being kept in silence,” she added. “Christopher mattered. He was loved beyond words. And he deserves truth and justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SED GIS at 250-470-6222 and quote file number 2026-856. You can also submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
