According to police, Mounties were called to an incident at a boat ramp at Charlie Lake, northwest of Fort St. John, around 11:10 pm on Friday, March 13.

“Police learned that several people were involved in an altercation, during which one person sustained serious injuries,” an RCMP release explained. “Despite life-saving measures, the victim later succumbed to those injuries.”

A Facebook post from the Akshat International School identified Manocha as a former student and resident of Ujjain, in central India.

It explained that Manocha had moved to Canada, specifically Fort St. John, to pursue a higher education in business management.

He was “striving to build a bright future,” the post noted.

Sgt. Devin Huff said NDMCU investigators are working diligently to advance the investigation and encouraged anyone with information on Manocha’s death to call the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8140.
