Newly discovered wildfires reported burning out of control in BC

The BC Wildfire Service says four new wildfires are burning out of control in the Prince George Fire Centre.

It says all of the new blazes were discovered Thursday.

The service says all four fires, which range in size from one to 80 hectares, are suspected to be caused by lightning.

It also says another fire that was discovered Thursday in the Southeast Fire Centre near Nelson is burning out of control.

The service says about 40 fires are currently burning across the province, with 31 per cent of them started by lightning, 67 per cent are human-caused and three per cent are unknown.

The latest provincial situation report posted on Tuesday says the northeast region is the driest part of B.C., with high to extreme fire warnings near the Alberta border.
