Police say forensic work continues at two scenes linked to the Feb. 10 fatal shooting in Tumbler Ridge as autopsies on the eight victims and the suspect are expected to be completed by the end of the weekend.
BC RCMP said Friday that officers and forensic identification teams remain at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a nearby residence. A vehicle connected to the suspect, parked outside the school, is also being examined.
Investigators have interviewed more than 80 students, educators and first responders. Additional interviews are ongoing and are being conducted using trauma-informed practices, police said.
Two surviving victims, identified as Maya and Paige, remain in hospital.

Police said digital and physical evidence is being collected and analyzed, including cellphone video, CCTV footage and body-worn camera video from responding officers.
Investigators have prioritized analysis of three firearms seized during the investigation: a long gun and a modified rifle recovered at the school, and a shotgun seized at the residence along with several other firearms. Police believe the shotgun was used in the homicides at the home.
The main firearm believed to have been used in the shooting at the school has never previously been seized by RCMP and its origin is unknown, police said.
A specialized investigative team is reviewing the suspect’s online activity and digital footprint, as well as any prior police or professional interactions.
The RCMP has launched an online portal for witnesses to submit photos or video from inside the school and is asking anyone who has not yet spoken to police to preserve evidence and come forward.
Police also urged the public and media to rely on verified information after an unrelated individual in Ontario was falsely identified online as the suspect.
RCMP released a confirmed image of the suspect, identified as Jesse Van Rootselaar, to prevent further misinformation.
The investigation remains ongoing.
