Highway closures due to avalanche control are typically short-lived and nothing more than a minor inconvenience for travellers.
That’s certainly not the case this week, however, as clearly there is a lot of work to do around the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) between Revelstoke and Golden.

After the major route was shut down for over 14 hours between Monday night and Tuesday morning, DriveBC is now warning of a multi-day closure set to begin this afternoon.
The second avalanche control closure of the week for Hwy 1 between Revelstoke and Golden will begin at 2 pm Tuesday, with eastbound traffic starting to be held in Malakwa at 1 pm.
“This closure is expected to last into Thursday, a DriveBC post explains.

Unfortunately for those with travel plans in the area, there is no immediate detour, which means several extra hours on any trip between Revelstoke and Golden.
You can check the DriveBC website for the most up to date highway conditions and closures.
