A Dodge Challenger was clocked going nearly 100 km/h over the speed limit on the Okanagan Connector (Hwy 97C) earlier this month.
According to the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP), the 29-year-old Coldstream man was eastbound on Hwy 97C when he was clocked going 207 km/h in a 110 km/h zone near Elkhart.
“That’s obviously a dangerous speed, and nowhere near the already-generous speed limit,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “This traffic stop was made even more dangerous because the driver failed to pull over to the right.”

A BCHP release noted that the driver stopping on the left side of the divided highway put himself and the responding officer in the path of the fastest moving traffic on the road.
“Luckily, other motorists slowed down and moved over when they saw the flashing police lights,” the release noted.
The driver was fined $483 for excessive speeding and his vehicle was towed away for a seven-day impound at his expense.
He’s also facing at least three years of high-risk driver premiums and escalating insurance that will bring the total costs of this traffic stop to around $2,500.
McLaughlin says the BCHP is glad no one got hurt because of the man’s actions, but warned other drivers that “collisions lead to fatalities” when driving at such an excessive speed.
