It was an exciting day for Canada at Milano Cortina 2026, even though fans may have felt more stress than joy at times.
Canadian athletes added two more medals to the country’s total, which included a gold for the fourth consecutive day.
That gold came courtesy of Steven Dubois, who beat his teammate William Dandjinou and a trio of Dutch skaters in the men’s short track speed skating 500m final.

Steven Dubois wins his SECOND Olympic medal at Milano Cortina 2026 in the men’s 500m short track speed skating! 🇨🇦 https://t.co/Sfzi2SL2xe
His victory came around 30 minutes after the Canadian women’s short track speed skating team won bronze in the 3000m relay.
The team was made up of Danaé Blais, Kim Boutin, Florence Brunelle and Courtney Sarault, who is firmly in closing ceremony flagbearer conversation with four medals to her name at the Games.
From the speed skating oval to the hockey rink, the Canadian men survived quite the scare against Czechia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Down 3-2 late in the third period, Nick Suzuki tipped in the tying goal and Mitch Marner scored in overtime to help Canada move on to the semis.
Canada will now take on Finland and the United States will battle Slovakia in Friday's two semifinal games.
Both of Canada’s curling teams were in action on Wednesday and both earned victories over the host Italians.
It was a less important win for the men, but the women desperately needed their victory to set up an opportunity to beat South Korea on Thursday and earn a berth in the medal round.
Before much of Western Canada woke up this morning, Mark McMorris finally competed in the Olympics but struggled to an eighth-place finish in the men’s snowboard slopestyle.
Fellow Canadian Cameron Spalding came 10th in the same competition, while Canadians Laurie Blouin and Juliette Pelchat finished fifth and ninth respectively in the women’s event.
The highlight of Thursday’s action will be the gold medal hockey game between the Canadian and American women, which begins at 10:10 am PT.
