It was a mixed bag of results for Canadians on the ice at Milano Cortina 2026 on Tuesday.
Canada added to its medal count thanks to an impressive team performance in short track speed skating.
The relay team of Kim Boutin, Courtney Sarault, Florence Brunelle, William Dandjinou, Félix Roussel and Steven Dubois finished second in the mixed relay.
For Boutin, it’s her fifth career Olympic medal to make her the most decorated Canadian female short track speed skater in the country’s Olympic history.
“I’m proud of my team,” she said of the group that skated to silver on Tuesday. “It gives me wings. This is just the beginning.”

The silver medal was Canada’s third of the 2026 Olympics after bronze medals in speed skating and alpine skiing on days one and three respectively.
While Canadian speed skaters found success on the ice on day four, the story was not the same for the women’s hockey team.
Without captain Marie-Philip Poulin, who was injured in Monday’s win over Czechia, the Canadians were blown out by the United States 5-0 on Tuesday.
The Americans, who brought a much younger roster to Italy for the 2026 Games, looked faster and hungrier than Canada, and are certainly the favourites heading into the elimination rounds.
Wednesday’s action will bring more medal opportunities for Canada, including the duo of Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier competing in the final stage of the ice dance competition.
