Wind alert issued for BC’s southern Interior including highways and communities

It is going to be a windy weekend across British Columbia’s southern Interior.

Environment Canada (EC) has issued a wide-ranging special weather statement that warns off “strong and gusty southwesterly winds.”

The wind alert covers essentially the entire southern half of the province from Hope to the East Kootenays from later today through Sunday.

“A cold front associated with a strong low pressure system passing through northern BC today will sweep across the southern Interior from this evening through tomorrow,” says EC.

“Local utility outages are possible. High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Secure loose objects. Prepare for possible disruptions to transportation, services and utilities.”

Not only are several communities included in the alert, EC is also warning travellers along the Coquihalla (Hwy 5), Connector (Hwy 97C) and Hope-Princeton (Hwy 3).
